Happiness Machine

Thermelaphy : The Public Bath House

Advisor: Patrick Donbeck

"since when did watching television or playing games become the way of relaxation"

Thermelaphy is to rethinking the way architecture providing happiness based on the notion of “self retreat”. Starting from the scientific of how do we feel happiness, The focal point of this project is to use architecture element as the signal sender to transfer happiness energy via spaces using human sense as the receptor to receive the happiness signal. The first phase of the project is to explore a relationship between architecture elements and human senses.

architecture element > space > human sense > brain > happiness

Thermelaphy is a public bath house setting at Lumpini park, large green space in between the rapidly expanding growth of the cities. Each space has been built up from different selected architecture element eg; skin material, light condition, acoustic and form to serve the notion of different space will have the different function of healing but all to perform both physical and mental happiness.

The project is also including the rebuilt public space. From the site context, the aim of the project is to provide forest-like relaxing public space but not distract surrounding. The organic wrapping structure is logically designed to function as the roof shading, facade and holding structure which connecting fluidly.

Phase 2 Performing Happiness / Deep Relaxation: The Happiness of Doing Nothing

Deep Relaxation: The happinesss of Doing Nothing

"since when did watching television or playing games become the way of relaxation"

Action: Self healing

Objective: To get rid of uncomfortable + healing body + get relax

Phase 2.1: Rules set

My idea is to explore the action of nothing to create something. On Phase 1, my studycase was Yunomori onsen a very japanese traditional way of relaxing and body healing. My question is that how can doing nothing but only bathing can help body self healing, get rid from pain and also relax our mind.  So in this phase i start looking in to the action of nothing and science behind it and it turns out that my nothing was a lot of things!

ARCHITECTURE   +    HUMANBODY

    =

    RETREAT

In this phase i try to observe and find materiality that could effect and retreat human body
both in physically and mentally. How can environment can sent some source of signal to our body and make some changes?

So i go back to a very basic idea of how do we feel thing? Human sensory are design in a very complex way. The very first way of feeling thing is through our sensory which is like receptor that receive signal and sent signal to brain then from brain processing process will occur.

Phase 2.2: POP-UP Machine

Environment

From sound wave to acoustic space
