PHASE 3 : Designing Happiness

The Meditation Pavilion
Site: Charoen Krung Road (Yaowarat area)

Charoen Krung Road (Yaowarat area) is a part of China town in Bangkok which there are many Chinese-Thai people living. Therefore, the project focuses on Chinese activities that relate to Buddhism religion and Chinese shrines and temples are observed.

Many shrines and temples are located around this area and they share some same elements that have religious meaning. For example, the lotus flower and drawings or sculptures of gradient of the gate. However, the place for relaxing is only a few and small, so the quiet shrines become another relaxing places for local people.

Design for the Meditation Pavilion is related to the Chinese shrine in the way that this building shape comes from the lotus and is divided into four floors according to sequence of celebrating Chinese Gods for four meditation activities: fan dancing, Tai Chi, rosary meditation, and sitting meditation.
